Allow variable selection after text input

From time to time I want to input text and combine that text with a variable. Currently, as soon as you start typing, the "@" doesn't trigger the selection box anymore. Now i have to type "@", select my variable, and then with the arrow keys move in front of the variable, and type my extra string.
